Welcome to Shugeiland

I’m Yuya, the heart behind ShugeiLand—a Kadazan from Kuala Penyu, now living in Kota Kinabalu, and a mom of two little ones. I find joy in creating handmade pieces that carry a touch of Borneo wherever they go.

In 2023, I became a first-time mother when I welcomed my daughter into the world. As a stay-at-home mom, most of my days are devoted to caring for my children, but deep down I longed for something that was truly mine—a creative outlet that could bring me joy and purpose.

I first explored punch needle art, creating large textured artworks. While it was fulfilling, I soon realized that the pieces were time-consuming to make and not everyone had space in their homes for such big artworks. That was when I decided to try something new—sewing.

I bought my very first sewing machine, a Brother JA1450NT, and began learning through YouTube tutorials (since I can't afford hiring a babysitter). Step by step, I started crafting small, meaningful items, and discovered how much I loved turning fabric into something useful, beautiful, and lasting.

As a Kadazan from Kuala Penyu now living in Kota Kinabalu, I grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture of Sabah.

This inspired my mission for ShugeiLand:
to share a little piece of Borneo with the world through handmade products.

I believe handmade creations carry stories within them—the culture they come from, the hands that made them, and the care that goes into each stitch. My journey is still unfolding, and as I continue learning new sewing skills, I’ll be adding more unique handmade products to ShugeiLand, each one infused with love, heritage, and a touch of Borneo spirit.

Thank you for being part of my journey.
